News Release: Military comes home by videoconference thanks to MIVNET

[Release Date __________]

Boca Raton, FL--MIVNET, a privately funded videoconference room provider member group, is reuniting military personnel and families by videoconference. The MIVNET sponsored project, dubbed "Operation Roll Call", will enlist the aid of MIVNET affiliate conference rooms across the country.

CV Solutions, a MIVNET provider member in the Florida Panhandle, connected the first three MIVNET sponsored "Operation Roll Call" calls. "We had wanted to do this all along; this opportunity just fell into our laps," says Sonja McDowell, director of videoconferencing, CV Solutions.

CV Solutions used an MCG gateway to connect US videoconference room locations. Special software was used to monitor the calls.

In one of the MIVNET sponsored calls, military wife Brenda Meerkatz and sons visited with husband and father Lance Meerkatz, who is stationed in Iraq. MIVNET sponsored a conference room in Overland Park, Kansas for the call. "It was only 25 miles from my home. The quality of the call was great," says Meerkatz, and "it was all free to us."

This is the kind of blessing a privately funded network like MIVNET can produce.

MIVNET offers room location services with no agents, brokers or hidden fees as well as discounted business-class facilities, enhanced network services, conference coordination and Internet broadcasting and archiving.

The room locator offers global graphical map-based search and search by city, province, state, and country and zip code.

MIVNET videoconference provider members receive placement in an on-line directory through which they can network with each other as well as other benefits and services.

MIVNET is working with FreedomCalls, a non-profit foundation, for the connection to Iraq.

FreedomCalls offers free video calls between Army personnel and their families in the US. "We have a satellite network that terminates in Connecticut and is connected into three separate camps in Iraq," says John Harlow, executive director, FreedomCalls.

The foundation is using the MIVNET directory to locate US videoconference rooms for the domestic part of the call. And, MIVNET is chipping in.

"If FreedomCalls is unsuccessful in getting charges waived by a public room videoconference provider, venue, gateway or bridge, MIVNET, through its worldwide membership, may at its discretion sponsor the event for the family and their military counterparts serving in Iraq," says Mark Levy, president, MIVNET, a private organization funded by member dues, Boca Raton.

"MIVNET is planning a number of public service announcements directed to our network affiliates alerting them to the relationship with FreedomCalls and requesting their cooperation," says Levy.

MIVNET will promote FreedomCalls and the relationship between FreedomCalls and MIVNET at MIVNET.COM with permission of FreedomCalls. FreedomCalls has the necessary channels of communication with the US Military abroad and has obtained necessary security clearances. MIVNET will act as a clearinghouse for venues and services, when requested.
